Think Of England

“Think of England” will be a semi-immersive site specific production which will blur the lines between impulsive un-rehearsed interaction with the audience and fully-rehearsed, scripted, high quality drama. The piece will aim to include the audience in the action without being intimidating or demanding. The ultimate goal is for the audience to feel comfortable and essential to the action. In the Summer of 1943, Bett and Vera travel the country hosting tea dances for RAF fighter pilots stationed nearby. What the locals don’t know is that the dance is a cover for the girls’ real purpose; to send the men off to fight and die having experienced all of life’s pleasures.

Ms Hayley Davis

5 Years

5 YEARS is a brand new solo show by Birmingham based Writer/Performer Hayley Davis. The show takes aim at the way our bodies are scrutinised and judged, ultimately asking “what is the perfect body anyway?” The piece is a light hearted look at how we are judged by the way we look and how this intersects with race and sex Amanda is tired. Of her job, her boyfriend and her life. If she can just achieve the perfect body, the perfect life will follow. So what if it costs 5 years of her life? It’ll be worth it. Maybe. 5 Years is a funny, sad and infuriating look at the way our bodies are policed, the messages we are fed about them and asks “what is the perfect body?”

Noctium

Animate

Blinking awake, your eyes take in the enormity of the world around you. To the left there is nothing; to the right there is nothing. But suddenly a flower appears, maybe you won’t be alone? Through the animation of objects Noctium brings you a tale of loneliness, loss and unwavering hope through the eyes of a banana.  Created as part of the (h)experiment season at the Mac Birmingham Noctium now brings this unique story to a wider audience as it continues to explore the weird and wonderful.

Wanna Dance with Somebody

Wanna Dance with Somebody!  is a show about social anxiety, about coping mechanisms – about big ideas and how they impact on small unimportant things, it is a show about dancing.

Josh has always hated the Macarena.

Josh is good at dancing, but not at people.

On the other hand he did once read ‘A Brief History of Time’ by Stephen Hawking so he reckons he’ll probably be alright.

How high exactly should you put your hands in the air to indicate the appropriate levels of not caring?

If a man dances in a forest like no one is watching, and no one is watching him is he really dancing?

Is the hokey cokey really what it’s all about? Really? Josh doesn’t know, but he’s damn well going to find out

On the Edge of Me

A timely, relatable, bold and humorous journey of discovery through the issues and challenges facing young people today. On The Edge Of Me is a dark comedy exploring themes of graduate blues, love, anxiety, JSA, and mental health. Follow Remi as she confronts her own rapidly changing situation whilst juggling the pressures and expectations placed on young people today. Through a beautiful combination of live literature, theatre, and storytelling, this piece asks the audience to place themselves in Remi’s shoes and to consider their own views on social issues and the impact they have on young people today.
